Luke 21:38 “And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.”
Many dream of traveling the world. Others live to see it all. Some have passports with stamps from around the world while others never even applied for one. Still others live to see great works of art. Some to listen to their favorites musician. To them, cost means nothing compared to the experience of living to tell “I was there!”
And what of Jesus Christ? If we heard that He indeed was here on this earth, what would you and I do? Would we schedule our work and check our calendars to see if we could ‘fit Him in?’ Would we look at our bank account and shrink from going anywhere because it might affect our retirement? Would we weigh out the opportunity to see what would best suit us? Or would we drop whatever it was we were doing for the opportunity to sit at His feet and hear Him speak?
In the days when Christ walked this earth, many came to hear Him. Others took opportunity to follow Him. Still fewer dropped everything and followed Him. Peter said,
Luke 18:28 “Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.”
And Jesus responded:
Luke 18:29-30 “And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.”
So, if you and I were to truly have the opportunity to sit at Jesus’ feet, what would hinder you from being there right now? The most worthy trip we, as children of God have is the distance it takes for our knees to hit the ground in prayer. There is not one of His children who, in sincerity, honesty and transparency can come to Him and not be heard. We have so many promises from Him that IF we come, we will be heard and He will answer.
The cost? Honest confession. Repentance. Time. The willingness to have a heart to heart with the God of Heaven. I have learned that no matter the guilt or shame that I feel, His love has not diminished nor decreased in the least bit. I am accepted of Him just as the prodigal was of his father. The son repented. The father received, rejoiced and restored his son to his rightful place.
The devil has tricked so many of us into believing that we are unworthy to approach our Father. We have bought into the lie that He disdains who we are for the sin we have committed. Nothing we can do can change our status as His child. We are adopted. We cannot be disowned nor does God desire such a thing. His heart is to remove that which took us from His presence – not to remove us from His sight.
Many, in hindsight, would lament the fact that they failed to go to God sooner; to get the wisdom needed and miss the snares laid for them. So, today, the worthy trip would be to the throne of grace – would it not? The worthy trip would be to spend the time needed and necessary to get the answers we seek; the direction we should travel; the people we should spend time and the work He would have us to do.
It is never too late to get to God. While you and I still draw breath, we are still here to fulfill His purpose; His will for our life. If there was nothing left for you and I to do here on this earth, He would take us home. If we messed up so horribly that we would be rendered useless; He would, again, take us home. Spend the time and prepare for the most worthy trip we can ever take – to God’s throne; to find grace and mercy in time of need.
