Acts 19:15 “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?”
This account in the bible always amazes me. Here, a demon-possessed group of people that some unsaved religious folk sought to take on – thinking they had the same power as Paul and the disciples. Then, they call on Jesus “whom Paul preacheth…” The next course of events is astounding. Then the demons, in an audible voice call this guy out for what he is trying to do.
Of course the demons knew Jesus. They were there at the creation. They saw Jesus in all His glory sitting at the right hand of the Father. They once worshipped and bowed at His throne. They felt the lightning-fast departure from His presence when they stood with Lucifer to rebel against the Almighty.
They knew Paul as well. They felt the sting of his words that called on the name of Jesus to cast them out of those whom they possessed. They knew the very Holy Spirit of God dwelt within him. They were stopped by the hand of God as He hedged Paul about to do the Father’s will.
But these prideful men, stood to call out these demons. They knew Jesus. They knew Paul. But they said:
“…who are ye?”
I am reminded of another passage;
Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
The personal nature of salvation will never be more clear when we stand before Him.
Revelation 20:11-15 “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Those who, on earth never bowed a knee to God will on that day:
Isaiah 45:23 “I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”
Romans 14:11 “For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”
God is never general in dealing with you and I. It is always personal. Because He knows us far better than we know ourselves, we must humble ourselves to the knowledge that He knows what is best for us. It is a whole other thing that our enemy knows us as well.
The indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit cannot be touched by the satanic realm. A child of God can never be possessed of a demon. Righteousness cannot be in the same place as unrighteousness. We are sealed unto the day of redemption. We are in the Father’s hand and no man can pluck us out.
Today, allow the personal nature of our God wash over you. You are loved-personally. You are accepted-personally. You are protected and secure in Christ. As Jesus said in John;
John 14:2-3 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
It won’t be a huddled mass of people crowding around the Savior trying to touch the hem of His garment – it will be personal there as well. As Jesus said to Mary when He had rose from the dead – “Mary…” she knew right away Who it was.
So today, stop listening to the lies of the devil trying to convince you that God doesn’t care, or that He doesn’t know you. He DOES care, and if you are saved – He DOES know you!
