Isaiah 50:4 “The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”
Encouragement. We all need it. We all crave it. So, when there seems to be a lack in our life, where do we go? The unsaved have little help and some try to numb the desire by living a fantasy – being someone or something they’re not. In the end, it will never satisfy because even if they like the ‘you’ you portray, it’s not the real ‘you’.
Opportunities abound when you and I listen to the Holy Ghost within us. He IS the Comforter. He can speak the words through us that others need. He can be the one to lend and ear, a shoulder, or just time in their presence by allowing us to be usable and obedient.
Barnabas was known as the ‘son of consolation’ or ‘The Encourager’. He was always there by the side of one who was seemingly cast aside. Whether it was Paul before the disciples or John Mark before Paul. He put himself out there for others. You will find that when you put yourself out there for others, God will encourage you in ways you and I could not imagine.
Joy. Peace. The calm assurance that all will be well. The presence of God in your life. These are things we cannot work up, or buy in a bottle. God tells us:
Luke 11:9-10 “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
So, we have the promise, but, do we actually DO it? Do we seek? Do we knock? Do we really want what it is we are seeking or are we satisfied with the idea that we tried?
I do know that God blesses diligence and hard work – every time. So, when seeking His presence, do not stop unit you have it. When seeking comfort, do not stop until you possess it. Have faith enough that God will keep His Word… Do we have desire enough to do what is necessary to get what it is He promised?
Oh, that our heart would never stop till we found the peace, the joy, the holiness, the sanctified desires that are worthy of our searching. Then, we could turn to our brother or sister in Christ and walk with them to get what it is they are seeking. The fire lit in our heart can spread when we share the search with others and encourage them to never give up or give in.
Find that one to encourage today – it just be that one on the mirror. Then, look outside of yourself and keep the fire going!
