Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?“
Many think that the increase of their lot in life will decrease their troubles and increase their happiness when in fact, there is not facts to sustain that type of thought. Whether it is fame, or fortune, the most miserable people are in Hollywood. Divorce, drug addiction and suicide are rampant.
Go to any casino parking lot and you will see that there is a great amount of unhappy people. They are there to try to fill a void that cannot be filled with the increase of riches. Many stake their hard earned retirement for the chance to have just a bit more.
It is good for the child of God to learn this lesson early. The getting of riches and the increase of goods will never bring happiness. Far too much money is spent on the lottery, games of chance and get rich schemes that those who indulge in them run the risk of becoming enslaved and addicted.
Many a self-made millionaire lives simply and frugally. They aren’t extravagant in their purchases. They eat what they make. They buy on sale. They scrimp and save. But there is a whole side to which we often do not consider.
My Heavenly Father is richer than anything or anyone.
Psalms 50:10 “For every beast of the field is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.”
He admonishes me to pray for needs and not wants.
Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
If God promises to supply ALL my needs according to His riches in glory, I need not pray for anything for me – it has already been determined that that need will be met.
Set your eyes on Him.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Contentment will follow.
