Jeremiah 23:22 “But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”
You don’t have to look very long or hard at the world today to see that we are in trouble. True, there has always been wars and rumors of wars. But, in the day in which we live, for the generations given into our care, it saddens the heart to think how little effect the gospel has had worldwide.
But has it?
Some say most churches today see growth because they swap sheep.
People have always been looking for a better pasture, a better field to pluck down roots and try to grow. Some have followed the new, flashy contemporary churches of today only to find they lacked depth. It is more of a rock concert or a social club than a place where God’s people are edified and challenged to grow.
So what is a true seeker of Jesus Christ to believe?
Is biblical christianity as popular as it once was? Am I becoming part of dying culture? America once stood as a beacon of righteousness; the hub for worldwide missions. Now, countries such as the Philippines are sending missionaries here to evangelize America instead of the other way round.
If your opinion is more liberal or conservative, you can find someone who’s research will support your views. But God has never told us to follow the majority nor believe that it is the sure way to follow. Jesus said:
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
There is a far more simple solution to the evils we see today.
All we need do is follow what God has already set forth in His Word.
Ecclessiastes 12:13-14 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
God brings it down to a far more personal level.
When each of His children do as they should; as we are commanded, we will begin to find a oneness of spirit in wanting to please God with our obedience. The exercise of our faith begins to be the expression of who we are. If pastors would just preach the Word of God, they would reveal a heart portrayed like the apostle Paul:
Follow me as I follow Christ.
The people in Jeremiah’s day, were told of God that if they had just listened and followed, none of the calamities, evil and bondage would have come upon them.
I believe the same is true today.
If we can preach and teach the truth of the Word of God and live out that truth simply, people will follow. Seekers are like minded that way. Our enemy would have us to believe that the way of the cross is dying; outdated and archaic.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change, nor will He.
It is our way of thinking; our way of perceiving what it is we see. With God’s Word as our filter, we can see more clearly and much more defined the path we are to travel. I will end with a passage that has become my life’s verse:
Psalms 40:1-3 “(To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”
God’s work in me has become my song. The transformation that took place back in 1990 is still bearing fruit. Do not be deceived child of God; we need to be visible in our faith, vocal in our testimony, and vibrant in our love for the Savior.
