John 6:63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
We all have had lessons learned at the altar of failure. We have learned from the failures of others as well as our own. Often, there are lessons that are open and available to us if we would but pay attention.
My father quietly taught me lessons of perseverance, faithfulness, hard work and the importance of family. I watched as he, with and eighth grade education, provide for a family of ten. I saw his determination as he struck out to go back to school, get his GED, the go on to become a skilled tradesman.
The character of man can leave us in awe of their talent and ability.
I have also seen the transforming power of the Word of God. How God can take a drug addicted teenager, clean him up, teach him and train him to things you might never have expected; like preach the gospel and then to reach out to help addicts find the same transforming power for their lives.
It is more than self-confidence and character. It is more that a great work ethic. It is what God does inside of a man or woman who yields to the Holy Spirit within to begin to change them.
The Word of God took a young boy’s lunch and fed thousands.
The Word of God caused a lame man, let down by some friends through a roof to leave the house walking.
The Word of God took a demon-possessed maniac and not only found him clothed, in his right mind and sitting at the feet of Jesus; but that man won a whole city to Christ.
Luke 8:39-40 “Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him. And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.”
The Word of God beckoned Peter to come out of the boat to be the only man to walk on water beside the Son of God.
The Word of God preached after Pentecost saw thousands of converts.
The Word of God shook continents; won nations, cleaned cities, made drunks sober, immoral men pure, harlots chaste and broken families whole again.
But, dear reader… it becomes Christian fiction to us if we do not experience the life-changing power of the Word of God ourselves.
What is it today that God has been working on you about?
Is there some sinful activity you are covicted about?
Is it a call to go forward by faith and follow His leading into a ministry?
There are many who become afraid when that call comes.
We shy away because the task seems daunting and near to impossible because we do not possess what it takes to do what ever it is God is asking.
We talk ourselves out of what God – the Sovereign God, the Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords… we fail before our faith has a chance to enter the fight.
We need to take God at His Word that what He has called you and I to; He will enable, empower and complete if we but follow His leading.
I have followed the call of God on my life and have seen and done some amazing things!
He can do the same for you if only we would allow Him the opportunity.
