Acts 10:33-34 “Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:”
Try as we may, we all hold to certain preferences, prejudices, and opinions. How we apply those to the people in our life are of great significance if you are a child of God.
In today’s world, we are so vastly diverse. We separate ourselves by race, culture and creed. Even more so now by gender, sexual preference, political view and much more. Here in the United States, we are forced to accept and tolerate all that are diverse yet they seemingly deny the same rights to those who may oppose their views.
In any given country around the world, there will be those who will rise up and force their ideology; their particular brand of politics upon a people. It is we, who are God’s children, who must see as our Heavenly Father sees.
Peter was a Jew. A zealous Jew. He prided himself on staying within the boundaries of his religion. God wanted to show him that the gospel was for everyone. So, God put Peter in a situation to challenge him to look further; to look beyond all that he knew to be true.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The world. I will be very honest that there are some in this world I find harder to love than others. When I am wounded by someone or when someone hurts those close to me; I find it difficult to forgive and to love as I am commanded.
Matthew 5:44-45 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
God calls us to go beyond our limited and narrow views to see tohers someone for whom Christ died!
Christ truly died for all. The gospel needs to go out to all. I must have respect for the opportunity God affords all men to hear the gospel. Not only respect the opportunity, but be the agent of change to bring them the good news!
Jude 21-23 “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
To someone, my sin was that putrefying smell that made their nose wrinkle and their eyes to turn. Yet, they stopped to give me the best news I have ever heard – and it transformed my life.
I will always love and cherish the opportunity that was given to me – I must return in kind.
Ask God to take you beyond the boundaries of your limited view and minister to those outside of your comfort zone. I have found that when you do, God opens opportunities to meet the most wonderful people!
