1 Corinthians 4:9-10 “For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.”
Love is an amazing thing to possess and to be possessed of.
It can fill us, It can cause the deepest of sorrows or the greatest of joys. Some might say, ‘The greater the love, the greater the sacrifice’, while those in that type of love would tell you – it is no sacrifice whatsoever.
The single-most significant act of love was Christ on the cross. No other love that you and I could ever know would ever come close to that type of love. At the time John wrote his gospel, Jesus used the greek word ‘agape’ – meaning ‘unconditional love’.
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
In my life, I have tried to fight my own mediocrity; just getting by, or doing a little more than most. As with anything else, we grow comfortable the longer we are involved. We settle in; we don’t apply as much zeal or passion.
Specific to our relationship with God, we must continually keep the love we say we have for God powerful, personal, and passionate. In the book of Acts today, I read of the passion Paul displayed for those to whom he ministered. He was willing to do whatever was needed to draw them closer; to open their understanding; to aid them in their growth as children of God.
Simply put – Jesus Christ did what was needed for me to be saved. He invites me to to do the same.
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Romans 12:1-2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Love drives me to give more to the One who gave His all for me.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”
Purpose today to live more than to just ‘go with the flow’ of life. Plan to be different. Purpose to love God deeply, strongly and passionately.
