Romans 3:19-20 “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
The Bible is a spiritual book. To understand it; to fully comprehend it, you must be spiritual. If a person was uneducated in mathematics, a math book would be unintelligible. Conversely, if you are one seeking God, you will find Him.
Jeremiah 29:13 “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.“
To those who cannot see or cannot hear the Bible’s truths; Jesus spoke of them:
Matthew 13:13-15 “Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”
Everyone who lives in a big city should get out into the country on a clear night and just look up. The multitude of stars is enough to convict a heart of just how small and insignificant we are! We have no power to reach them, though man has tried. The probes we have sent into deep space will never reach the vastness of this universe. We are but one galaxy among how many… we do not know.
The God who created them has left for us a path to Himself. Whether it be science, philosophy, reason or intellect; to ignore God will limit your understanding, close off you mind to truth and your heart from knowing real love, joy peace and happiness.
The Bible; the Word of God is like a mirror. It shows us our true nature in light of truth. The conviction it brings comes when we see where we stand in light of that truth.
IF there is a God who created this world as we know it, how are we to know it?
Romans 1:18-21 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
God says everyone will be brought to a decision – but not all will make the right choice.
Growing up, I knew there had to be more to life than the religious activity in which I was made to participate. If God was a person like what the Bible spoke of this Jesus, can I know him? Does He even know me? Does He love me? Does He even care?
My journey to find the answers to those questions and more, brought me to a decision point – do I trust the god of my parent’s religion, or the God of the Bible – for there was a unique difference.
I was brought to know that I am a guilty sinner who deserves the punishment and penalty prescribed for my offenses. The Bible showed me that unless I came to accept my guilty state, I couldn’t be helped. I knew what I was. I was a liar; I had cheated; I was a fornicator and a drunkard. For what I had done, God’s Word showed me and convicted me that I was deserving of Hell to pay for those sins.
But the journey did not end there.
I was brought to know that God’s love was given so that I did not have to remain under the guilt and condemnation of my sin. His Son, Jesus, paid for ALL of my sins and the sins of the whole world on the cross of Calvary that day. He offered me forgiveness.
John 1:12-13 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Had I not looked into the Word of God, I would not have seen myself the sinner I had become. But I am not unique in this situation, the whole world is under the same condemnation. It is plainly stated by Jesus:
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Though I was truly guilty – deserving of the maximum penalty of the law; receiving the forgivess of my sins, trusting what Jesus Christ did on the cross to pay for my sins is what saved me.
Everyone is given the same opportunity no matter who they are or were they live. Do not let some obscure example stop the truth from becoming personal to you. You and I will stand alone before a holy God to give an answer as to why we should be allowed to go into Heaven. There is only one right answer:
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
