Psalms 7:11-12God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.”

Sometimes the smallest of things can cause the greatest damage or turn the tide of a seemingly impossible situation. Something so small as a 2 1/2 ounce piece of flesh can do so much damage.

James 3:5-6Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

When I was meditating on this verse, that statement “…If he turn not...” jumped out at me.

It amazes me that God has left much to our keeping and choice.

His way or our way. Sounds pretty simple, right?

Yet, we complicate matters when we allow our desires to supercede God’s. No matter how right things may seem or how passionate we may feel about a matter, IF God says it is wrong, or wrong for me, I have a choice to make.

Proverbs 14:12There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

Proverbs 16:25There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

One appearance of such a verse is worthy of notice, but two should drive the point home. It may seem a bit redundant to see the exact same verse just a few chapters later, but, God does everything on purpose.

It is as He says it is – He is angry with the wicked every day. With all the preparations, promises, provisions and power He gives to us so that we can see just how good God is; how loving; forgiving; protecting and providing; we cannot help but turn to Him.

Sadly, there are those whose belief and trust is in their will and their own way. They are diametrically opposed to anything and everything God does and says. Sounds like someone else in the Bible… Lucifer.

Even for those who set themselves against Almighty God, He keeps the door open for them to repent – to turn from their previous position and come to be redeemed; to be set free from sin’s bondage.

“IF” they turn. IF they repent. IF they trust God. We are so quick to pass our own judgment, but God, who is rich in mercy, waits. He so lovingly and patiently waits. Because God knows the end for those who defy and deny Him, He makes every effort to keep that door of opportunity open.

Only God can know when the heart of a man closes to the opportunity offered to them.

Was it anger over unanswered prayer? Was it a wound so deep that they blame God for allowing it to happen? Was it unmet expectations that God failed them somehow?

There is so much I still do not understand about God. Yet, what I don’t understand doesn’t keep me from trusting Him completely. It is not a ‘blind’ faith, as some would be so quick to label. But, a faith that goes beyond my sight, my understanding and my knowledge of who God is and who He is to me.

Today, that “IF” is still there for any and all who would decide to turn from the wicked ways and come to trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. You may not believe there is a fiery, eternal Hell. But as Billy Sunday; a famous evangelist said:

“You’ll not be in Hell five seconds before you believe there is one!”

Would you wager an eternity on your disbelief of an eternal judgment?

What “IF” you’re wrong…?
