Sunday Soothings

Isaiah 14:12-17How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

Knowing the truth can bring about many a varied response. Sometimes, we would have liked to have gone on in our ignorance than to have heard or known the truth. Others still would have wanted the truth all along than be lied to.

To hear that Lucifer; one of the most beautifully created of the angels, is where the sin of pride originated, is unsettling to say the least.

As I read through this passage this morning, my heart was smitten with the thought that when pride rears its ugly head in my life, I am more like Satan than I am like my Heavenly Father.

Satan is subtle in all that he does; we learned that early on.

Genesis 3:1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

This great deceiver is crafty, cunning and often knows more about our nature that we do about ourselves. That is, if we remain ignorant of his devices.

2 Corinthians 2:10-11To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

I have taken heed to those things God tells me about my heart:

Jeremiah 17:9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

That statement – “…who can know it?” means you and me.

I have found over the years, that I cannot know my own heart. It is deceitful. It tells me things that are not true – unless I check them against God’s Word.

Today, Sunday, I have always tried to have a truth that would soothe our hearts. THus – Sunday Soothings. Truly, when you and I can rest in the knowledge that when we are led and guided of the Holy Spirit of God, my way is protected.

Psalms 32:7-8Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”

Pride says, “God, I’ve got this. You can go help someone more in need than me.”

Typically, very soon after, something happens to remind me just how much I need Him. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that in all things – I need Him. In that wonderful hymn, Lily of the Valley we sing:

He’s all my grief has taken and all my sorrows borne

In temptation He’s my strong and mighty tower

I have all for Him forsaken and all my idols torn

From my heart and now He keeps me by His power

In sorrow He’s my comfort in trouble He’s my stay

He tells me every care on Him to roll

Every care… Small or great. Big or small. We are not accustomed to care such as only God can provide. He knows every hair on my head, every idle word I might speak and the words before I speak them. He has seen my end from the beginning. He is with me and has promised to never leave nor forsake me – ever.

His presence, His power, His protection, His provision are all there for me as a child of God. I lack nothing. All my needs are provided for.

Philippians 4:19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Satan would seek to drain us of all that God has for us wanting to put us in bondage because of our ignorance. Take heed my friend.

God has truly given us the victory.

Seek Him today!
