1 Corinthians 9:19 “For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.”
There are three scenarios that we should consider:
A servant obeys because he has to
An employee obeys because he needs to, and
A loving son obeys because he wants to.
When we go from church attenders to participants to those who serve, our hearts should follow out of love, not just obedience.
There are those who feel like slaves to church – that they have to go.
John 15:15 “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”
Many feel like they have to work to gain the favor of a few, or the pastor to be accepted or even to be saved. All the work for salvation has already been done.
But if my work, my allegiance, my devotion is toward my Heavenly Father out of love; then I will work like a slave to show my love for Him by doing the things He has asked of me.
Before you go off to church today, take the time to cleanse your soul and prepare your heart. Often, we rush off without a thought that there might be others who need us to be the spiritual one. It takes us halfway through the song service for our heart to begin to feel anything.
When what we do in our church loses its passion, our work with God becomes work for God and results in duty becoming a chore and will soon tire of it and quit.
But when our work in the church is our passion and we come ready and prepared to be a blessing, God often blesses us in return.
Take the time needed to ready your heart to be a blessing to others and watch as God then gives you what you need in return!
Have a blessed Lord’s Day!
