2 Kings 6:16-17 “And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”
Frank Peretti, a Christian author, wrote many books, two in particular, that opened my eyes to the spiritual realm. “This Present Darkness and “Piercing the Darkness” flipped between the activities in the angelic realm and the earthly.
This passage of scripture solidified my belief that we are watched, aided, and protected by ministering angels. Peretti brought to life the inner workings of what might take place ‘behind the scenes’ if you will. I do not base my doctrinal belief on the details of what he wrote, but, it made this passage all the more real.
Faith believes that He is who He says He is and will do what He said He will do. The truth that we must be dependent upon a holy God becomes hard to engage when you cannot see Who it is you are trusting.
The prophet Elisha prayed for a ‘double portion’ of Elijah’s spirit (note the lack of capitalization for ‘spirit’).
2 Kings 2:9 “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.”
Elisha knew it was not a double portion of the Holy Spirit he requested, but the spirit Elijah possessed to trust God, believe His Word, and courageously go forth in faith.
I pull this out today, not to pray that we see as Elisha and his servant did that day, but that we would trust God that it is so; that our faith would strengthen, our resolve be bolstered, and we would be desirous of the type of spirit Elijah had and Elisha coveted.
Our Heavenly Father has provided everything for us to fulfill His will here on this earth – right down to the army of angels to protect us from any demonic plot, ploy, or plan. May we take the blinders off and see as God would have us; to make an eternal difference in the lives of those around us.
Pray for a divine appointment with someone. Pray for the wisdom needed for their sake. Ask God for the leading of the Holy Spirit to be clear and our ears open to hear, our eyes to see clearly, and our words seasoned with salt.
