Hebrews 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
Christians aren’t perfect – Just forgiven!
And oh, what a forgiveness it is!
God’s Word gives four precious truths about the forgiveness one can receive from the Father.
My sins are at the bottom of the deepest sea.
Micah 7:19 “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
He has put all my sin behind His back.
Isaiah 38:17 “Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.”
God has removed my sin from me.
Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
The greatest of these is our text this morning.
The very act of forgiveness would be enough. But, the lengths that God has gone to describe to us His promise of complete and utter forgiveness of all our sin is amazing. This capstone – that God chooses to remember our sin no more is above and beyond; more than we can imagine.
There is no greater act of love than what we are given in Jesus Christ.
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
That love was shown to all, for all to see and believe.
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
This salvation offered to all is to be received freely by faith.
John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”
To receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior is to take part in being born again.
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
A Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, named Nicodemus, came to Jesus by night to inquire about the strange doctrine that Jesus was teaching. He could not reconcile what he knew with what Jesus had said. This second birth; being born again, confused him.
John 3:4 “Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”
Nicodemus wasn’t trying to trap Jesus in His words. He did not have malicious intent with what Jesus gave him. He was genuinely seeking to understand. The faith Jesus spoke of was not a tangible thing to be touched or seen; it was like the wind. We cannot see it, but we see its effect on the leaves and feel it as it rushes against our cheek.
Jesus then speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit. He likens His work in us like unto that of the wind. We cannot see Him, but we feel His conviction and His leading.
This salvation; this becoming born again, is an absolute must for every person desiring Heaven as their eternal destination.
John 3:7 “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
Those who trust Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will be as the Bible describes it; born again — born twice.
Born twice, die once. Born once, die twice.
God says that sin has a punishment and a penalty – death.
Ezekiel 18:4 “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
That second death is an eternal one.
Revelation 20:14-15 “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
For the one saved today, we never lack for things with which to praise God. Salvation alone will be an eternal source of praise on our tongues!
For those who reject God’s perfect gift, it will be an eternal reminder of what could have been. Every soul receives the opportunity to choose.
The skeptic touts the Amazonian tribesman that man has not reached as their attempt to disprove this truth. God tells us in His Word that even they are without excuse.
Romans 1:19-20 “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
God placed in man the ability to see and to seek Him. He did not leave us to fend for ourselves. He did not want to hide from us. God created and so desired to have fellowship with us!
We are unlike any other creature in the universe. The creation called the human body is an intricate study of the miraculous. The existence of our soul is unlike any other created being. The intelligence given to man and its abilities is only overshadowed by that which God possesses.
So, to accept the truth that God loved me enough to send His only begotten Son to die for me is simple.
Dear reader, it is the prayer of this author that you have the most beautiful gift ever given; which is eternal life through Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
Moreover, those who have trusted Him never lose the awe and wonder of that most excellent gift!
