Join a group that supports a cause of interest, and you might find that you are standing with rebels or unbelievers.
Knowing the details of what it is, you believe matters.
Many feel they only need to look lightly upon the statements of churches, and because they suit them in one area, they think they are right on all counts. Consider the use of the term “Christian.” There are some religions in existence that call themselves Christian, but in doctrine are anything but.
Some are legalistic in their belief. Others place conditions of performance. Some think you can lose that which God promised to be eternal. When it comes right down to it, we need only to consult God’s Word as our authority, wholly and thoroughly.
Matthew 4:4 “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
When Paul was training young Timothy, he gave him this charge:
2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Because the Bible is a spiritual book, you must first BE spiritual to understand it. Only a saved child of God, indwelt with the Spirit of God can discern the Word of God.
The standard by which we should live comes from the very words spoken to men of old who copied out what God wanted us to know through the ages. God designed it that we would not just be saved by faith and faith alone, but live life after salvation by faith as well.
The ecumenical movement came about because of weakness. Weakness in doctrine, weakness in standards, and weakness in character. To take a stand against wrong meant that I would be dividing my family, or, dividing my household. God knew it would happen.
Matthew 10:21-22 “And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
Throughout history, the way of Christ is marked by a trail of blood. Oppression and persecution have always come against those who will stand for Christ. Why, then, are we shocked when it comes to our doorstep?
If you are saved today, you are given possession of today – no more. Yesterday is gone, and the promise of tomorrow is held by the One who knows all, sees all, has power overall, and holds it all in His hand.
We have been given a charge by our great King. He bids us go into the highways and hedges and bring in the lost. He encourages us to stay close to Him. He gives us armor for the fight, light for the darkness, and healing for our wounds. He gives us love unconditionally.
He gives gifts and talents to all and bids us use them to find purpose in our life by serving others. Yielding and submitting to the path that has been fore-ordained for me to travel relinquishes the power and control to One far superior in every way.
Solomon sought out wisdom and was given more than any man living – ever. So, to read the book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon is delve into the refined thoughts of one who has already processed what we might think, considered it from every angle, and weighed it all out in God’s balance.
Believers gather today – this Lord’s Day – to be fed, to be admonished, to be exhorted, and to be built up for tomorrow. We gather for fellowship, for friendship, and to be with those who are likeminded.
When you study out the details of what a church believes and remain diligent to see that they maintain those beliefs, you can find comfort in what is taught and what is being done in the name of the Lord.
Bring your Bible. Open it and ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you and the preacher into all truth. Work to find right, Once you find it, fight for it. After we are told to take up the armor, we are given a charge.
Ephesians 6:10-11 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
