Acts 24:5-6 “For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.”
Winston Churchill said that a lie will travel halfway round the world before truth gets its pants on.
God has placed us right where He wants us. Our mission field is our neighbors, our family, and our community. When we are a vibrant witness for the Lord, we will come up against opposition and accusation.
We want our life to be without difficulty. Without it, we would be arrogant, proud, and useless. Opposition forces us to look to God for deliverance and protection.
Accusation should humble us. Not so much for what is said, but that we are thrust in the light of scrutiny. God will allow it for what others will see when our life is shown in greater detail.
Our enemy will see to it that the accusations made are in such a way that it will destroy us. It will cast doubt on our character. It will question our motives and sincerity. When it happens, if it happens, we must have a plan for how to act – not react.
God gives us armor to wear.
Ephesians 6:13-17 “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
Armour alone will not keep us if our spirit is not in tune with the Spirit of God. When we return accusation, bitterness, and hatred only fuel the situation. Our response to any allegation must be to honor the One whom we serve.
We must realize that the one doing the accusing is a soul for whom Christ died. They are just being used as a tool of the enemy.
Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
When contention takes place, there is only one that I can deal with – me. My pride is what will meet such a one with my defenses up. Often, we want to defend ourselves.
Proverbs 27:2 “Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.”
The principle of this is to allow another to step in to be our advocate. Every child of God has One.
1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
There is no rehearsal for these times when they come. Jesus instructed us to rely on the Holy Spirit’s guidance and leadership when those times come.
Luke 12:11-12 “And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.”
Let it not shock us that we are called into question, but prepare for the time when it comes. We will truly honor our Savior by how we act and respond.
