Revelation 20:15 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Knowing that we are in the end times, it is intriguing to read the Book of Revelation. It is when God pours out His judgment, reveals all, and judges all. Many have read trying to pinpoint the year or the time, but God warns against it for it cannot, nor will it ever be known to us.
Matthew 24:35-36 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
The imagery of the book is cause for debate among the scholars as to who or what is referenced within. Take the great whore Babylon. Some say it is a denomination, others, America. Both are having worldwide influence to sway men away from God, and they somewhat fit the description.
But throughout this book, God is very plain as to how to escape the coming judgment. The Book of Life – are you in or out?
Revelation 3:5 “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
Again, a very simple explanation:
1 John 5:5 “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
Jesus made plain the way of salvation to those seeking. Nicodemus, a Pharisee, sought out Jesus to understand that which did not line up in his mind.
John 3:1-2 “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.”
He heard and it broke through enough for him to question, for him to seek further. He risked his reputation and standing to find the answer. Jesus was able to make it understandable for him.
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
It puzzled Nicodemus. What did Jesus mean by this second birth?
John 3:5-8 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
By all accounts, it appears that Nicodemus received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He risked all helping bury the body of Jesus with Joseph of Arimathaea.
John 19:38-39 “And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.”
So many proofs abound as to what it takes to become a saved child of God. Each person has their strongholds that must be broken before they can come. For me, I needed the stronghold of tradition to be broken. My parents taught me what they knew.
Mark 7:12-13 “And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”
Tradition can make the Word of God have no effect on the heart of those held in its sway. John told it plainly:
John 1:12-13 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
