Saturday Morning Musings

Mark 4:24 (KJV) And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.”

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I hear my mom’s voice ring in my ears when I hear that statement. It was after I had oppressed one of my sisters that she smacked my bottom and used her finger to emphasize her point. I took it to heart.

Having lived for over sixty years, I have seen a great deal of change. Change in my country, change in the culture, change in the church, and change in me. The very fabric of our country is being assaulted by selfishness, immorality, and ungodliness.

That is if you listen to the mainstream media.

If what you see around you seems dark, dismal, and depressing, you are missing the one element that God gives to every child of God – HOPE!

Colossians 1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel

Hope can give us a rope to that which is sure.

Hebrews 6:17-20 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.”

Hope has its origin in the Word of God.

Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Hope is the catalyst for us to be a bold witness when confronted.

1 Peter 3:15-16 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.”

I have found that when hope is spread liberally, it returns to me a peaceableness that is comforting and soothing. When your spirit is infused with hope, it becomes infectious!

People will love being around you. Friends will seek your advice, and others will draw close just to be encouraged.

When you bring hope to work, things begin to happen. Someone once asked, “So, what’s makes you so happy on this dreary Monday?” To which I replied, “I am one day closer to Heaven!”

The conversation that ensued allowed me to give the gospel in a non-threatening way and that person has since trusted Jesus as their Savior. What we give to God can be used in ways we cannot imagine. Hope undergirds our faith with a confidence that only comes with submission and obedience.

God clears the path for us to travel. He makes it understandable for us to see where it is He wants us to go, and what He wants us to do.

When it seems to go against our nature or cause fear to rise, we can rest assured that God will never leave our side.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Understanding the laws of sowing and reaping, we won’t receive as quickly as we might desire. But, in time, we will reap.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

So, let us do unto others as we would have them do unto us with the hope that God will bless them, protect them, provide for them, and protect them. Knowing that we will receive from God that which He promised, we can wait with hope of receiving.
