2 Corinthians 4:3-4 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
Ever since creation, humanity has had an enemy.
Some might say his hatred stems from the fact that we are made in the likeness and image of God.
Genesis 1:26-27 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Others think it is because of God’s unconditional love for us.
Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
Whatever the reason, we still have a very active and powerful enemy bent on hurting the heat of God through the destruction of humankind.
As God’s plan for man’s redemption unfolded, Satan saw that Jesus was the focal point of the salvation of man. He unleashed an assault on Him with as much power as the Father allowed.
On the third day, the victory was secure. Christ had won, and the devil had lost.
Old Testament believers were those who looked to the coming Messiah. We look back to the cross and the empty tomb. We are both saved the same way; by believing in Jesus Christ.
Paul’s admonishing of the carnal church at Corinth is for us as well. We cannot hide what Christ has done for us. I do not understand why we cannot be the vocal majority. With every promise we’re given, there is nothing that can stop us – not even death.
For in death, we are translated into the presence of our Lord and Savior. The suffering we may incur here on this earth God calls ‘light affliction.’
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
We all will have doubts and fears. But God tells us that we will conquer our fear by where we are looking. If I am to face persecution, pain, and suffering, I want to know that it is for something meaningful, a righteous cause, a purpose.
Those in this world were once as we were, blinded to the gospel. That is until someone came and showed us the way. Now, we are to do the same for others. Unbelievers are blinded because our enemy Satan, works very hard to keep us from seeing the eternal work of personal evangelism.
Every saved child of God is commanded to be a witness.
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
It is a bold move to come out and declare yourself to be something beyond the acceptance of what the culture, religion, or government accepts as ‘normal.’ In my lifetime, I have seen those who hid in silence come out and avow their homosexuality. Today, it is becoming an accepted lifestyle, promoted in every area of life.
God still calls homosexuality a sin.
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
Romans 1:26-27 “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.”
Satan is slick to point out to the world that we who oppose sin are “haters” when, in fact, we love ALL, yet, hate sin. It is a concept hard to grasp by those in the throes of their sin – saved people included.
The gospel, the Word of God, enlightens.
When any of us gives ourselves over to sin, we become the servant of it.
John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”
Romans 6:16 “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”
We, who are children of God, have witnessed the transforming power of Jesus Christ firsthand. Our lives are a testimony of that fact. The one irrefutable piece of evidence any child of God has is their testimony.
Paul admonishes us, as well as the church at Corinth, to be bold in our witness. Be light in dark places. Be the one to bring the power that will break the chains and take the blinders off their eyes to see Jesus for who He is – a Savior worthy of their trust.
But it cannot happen if we hide what we’ve been given.
Here, in America, our founding fathers gave us the freedom to preach, teach, and provide the gospel freely. There are some whose countries have persecuted Christians, oppressing, and even killing them.
The light we carry will shine brightest in the dark. We need to be bold enough to shine for Him.
Come out saved, child of God, and burn brightly for God! The eternity for those lost around us is hanging in the balance.
