The Weapon of Prayer

Psalm 109:2-4 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.”

We all know that we should pray.

But do we?

We may throw the occasional prayer for those we see in need or things we can do nothing about.

Yet, where are the prayer warriors? Where is the travailing in prayer that wrought the salvation of hardened hearts and brought the Holy Spirit’s power and presence into our meeting place?

Where are the all-night prayer meetings?

Where are the noontime meetings to pray for revival?

Where is the church scheduled, church-sanctioned prayer meetings for God to do the supernatural?

We are satisfied and seem to accept the power and work of the flesh and blame God for not coming through when we are the very ones to be blamed. We complain of our world’s state, yet do nothing and say nothing to effect a change.

David saw the situation and circumstance of his day and meditated on what he might do. In the course of his meditation, he gave himself over to prayer, realizing that the only real power he could wield was in prayer.

Jesus gave this wonderful truth:

John 14:12-14 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

The power and witness that each child of God possesses is accessible through prayer.

If what we pray is within God’s will, we can see His hand move against our enemies, heal, comfort, forgive, and show Himself real by breaking through the hardest of hearts to accept Him as Savior.

We all know what our flesh is capable of performing. We see it operate all too often. What are truly missing is a revival of God’s people seeking Him alone to do that which we lack the power and strength to accomplish.

Whether it is choosing our governmental leaders to our communities accepting the gospel when presented, we must exercise our faith to show a lost and dying world that God is alive and well in 2020.

Many think God is dead or apathetic to the situation we find ourselves in today.

God is not willing that anyone goes to Hell as payment for their sin.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Prayer is a weapon given to the church to reveal the hand of God in the world today. The church cannot shrink from its duty to pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

Knowing that the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will be as a thief in the night, we must be on guard to pray as we are commanded.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

Warfare prayer is utilized to access God’s throne to effect change both in our hearts and those around us. Whether it is protection from the onslaught of Satan or moving our leaders’ hearts to choose righteousness instead of wickedness.

Warfare prayer involves knowing God’s heart, His character, and, most importantly, how to use His Word in our weaponry. What God promises cannot and will not change.

Take up the weapon of prayer today.

Do not let the enemy have you put it off till later – it will never happen.
