Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Mankind has spent time, money, and a great amount of effort to discern just what is the way to perfect happiness – Utopia. Yet, we’ve fallen short every time. Empires have risen and fallen. Nations have conquered only to lose to another.
Multitudes have followed the one whose charisma and words charmed them to follow willingly only to find the end unsatisfying. Ideologies, political viewpoints, and even cultic leaders spout their doctrines to the detriment of their followers because their way is their own.
God’s wisdom tells us that our own way is faulty. Our hearts cannot be trusted.
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
Pride, a desire for recognition, and self-worth press us into the limelight of glory that only our Heavenly Father deserves. For the child of God, there is only one way to follow.
Isaiah 26:7 “The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.”
Jeremiah 42:3 “That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.”
Jesus left His disciples a clear path to follow.
Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
We can see even more clearly when we stop trying to add to or have our way AND God’s.
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Today, so many things vie for our attention. Notifications on our phones or computers ding and we are trained to look, if not answer everyone.
But when our minds focus on one voice, one path, and one leader in our lives, we will see the clouds and confusion dissipate. In the clearing, we see Jesus standing there, waiting for us to grab hold of His hand and walk us through this life.
His path and plan for our lives have already been set long before we ever came into existence.
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
We all have trusted advisors that we allow to influence our way in certain areas. I receive counsel in the area of investing by men whose expertise has been proven over time.
I yield to my Pastor because I need someone in my life that is willing to tell me things I am unwilling to say to myself. It is only when I take up a “way” that is contrary to God’s Word that I will not experience lasting success.
We must test our way against the one our Savior purchased for us. I find that I justify my way of having some semblance of control. That type of thinking is what is called “Stinkin thinking!”
The moment I feel there is some control in my possession, I must carefully consider the options. We all have been given choices. When my decisions line up with God’s Word, I know that success now belongs to God.
Consider what is before you today. Search the scriptures to see if God has already given a path to take. Then, make your choice based on who is better to follow – you or God.
